Our Work

Civic Engagement

AAOP’s civic engagement program runs year-round and encompasses door knock, phone bank, text, and hot spot canvassing to reach our young Asian voters in Minnesota to mobilize our community to vote.

Summer Organizing Youth Program

The Summer Youth Organizing Program is geared towards high school students between 14 to 18 years old and are interested in social justice. This is a two month long paid learning experience incorporating gender justice, civic and community engagement, and grassroots organizing. Youth get the chance to build relationships with their community and their cohort through field trips and team bonding.

Summer Organizing Fellowship Program

The Organizing Fellowship program at AAOP is a 2-3 month paid summer internship program that invites emerging Asian American leaders to learn, develop, and apply their skills in real-world situations. The program integrates civic engagement, community and cultural organizing, and participatory action research.

Youth Action Team

The Youth Action Team runs during the school year and invites a small cohort of high school aged youth to continue to develop their leadership, facilitation, and advocacy skills. They get the chance to develop their issues organizing skills, learn participatory action research, join coalitions, advocate for bills and policies, and learn grant making.

Gender Justice Program

AAOP has incorporated gender justice, along with an anti-capitalism lens, into our work from the very beginning. We practice gender justice through gender inclusivity by centering the most marginalized/impacted by patriarchy, transphobia, and homophobia. Femmes/womxn, queer and trans people, folks w/ disability and youth of color are at the forefront of our work. The Gender Justice's focus for 2021 and beyond is reproductive health and freedom. Interns, fellows, and canvassers involved in the program will conduct PAR research on abortion access as the groundwork for advocacy.

Re-Granting Program

We believe that our community knows best. That's why we also provide additional grants and funding to other community organizations to ensure that they also have resources to do the work needed to make sure our communities thrive.

New Narratives

New Narratives is a podcast created and initially developed and produced by Anya Steinberg. The podcast continues as part of AAOP's work with Anya's blessing and is a platform for young Asian Minnesotans to tell stories, critically discuss issues, topics, and news relating to Asian Minnesotans, and more. Listen on Spotify, Apple Podcast, or Anchor.
